I just buried my husband at Arlington National Cemetery this past June. We had been married 42 wonderful years. He was a quadriplegic with MS who had served in Viet Nam. He was a man of strong character who loved life, even through all the hardships of that horrific disease, and loved his country and family. When I saw you on fox news this morning, I knew I had to donate to such a worthy cause. When he passed away, after being his 24/7 caregiver for almost 9 years, I was left penniless other than his VA life insurance of only $10,000. Luckily, that is what carried me through the following six months of utility bills and groceries (losing the house to foreclosure). One of the problems was the extremely slow VA claims process. Other than $1400 a month from Social Security, I rec’d nothing for six long months! I moved in with my daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren and now have found a happy niche. Experiencing the stress of financial difficulties on a personal level, I empathize with any military family hardship because I know the VA does not have the ability to deal with the urgency of financial demands quickly enough. I applaud your efforts and will be eternally grateful to all our military personnel who sacrifice so much for this great country! Thanks to you, your family and friends and all who support you, we have yet another wonderful example of how Americans are the heart and soul of what is great in this country.
