Not a typical night at the gym, as Doug Tribou from NPR’s “Only a Game” was on hand for interviews with me, Robbie Az, Heather and Noah … and then graciously stuck around to rebound the last 400. Great guy, Doug Tribou, and the Hoops For Heroes segment is currently scheduled to run on the show’s 180 affiliate stations (including WEVO 89.1 FM in Concord) on Saturday, Jan. 23, from 7 to 8 a.m. — after which it will be archived on the “Only a Game” website.
And Doug may be back with us next Tuesday, as we learned today that we’ll be shooting at halftime of the Pembroke vs. Merrimack Valley game on Jan. 19 at Pembroke Academy. The significance? If the schedule holds up, those 50 at halftime will bring us to exactly 100,000 made free throws.
So as for tonight’s basketball effort, Price Robbie was great as always, underhanding or flicking it back with typical precision and efficiency. I was shooting it fairly well, too, so we cruised along — even with a few serious laughs — to 1,200 in a little less than an hour and a half, which is when Doug jumped in. He’s clearly an athlete and a basketballer, so we never skipped a beat on the way to 1,600.
Hey … correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe we just crossed 9 percent, at 90,207 down, 909,793 to go to 1 million.
