March 21: 1,500 with Jaydon and Dad

22 Mar

I’ve raved about how cool these Anderson kids are before, but it’s worth repeating now, because yesterday the younger of the two — Noah’s pal and fourth-grader Jaydon — was truly amazing on the Epsom Central School basketball court.

The foul shooting adventure was still unplanned as of about 4 p.m., which is when I had a drop-off at the Anderson’s that led to Jaydon volunteering to help.  So along with my dad, we trucked on down to the court at around 6:30 or so, and from there proceeded to get after it with two balls going at once.

Normally, this two-ball thing is built for me plus three others, but we’ve tried it with only two before, and it works as long as the two are switching jobs every 100 or so.  That’s because the two jobs are not equal, with the rebounder doing some serious scrambling and the other one simply standing next to me at the foul line, taking passes and handing off.

So every 100, I asked Jaydon, “Ready for a break?”  And every 100, he looked back at me like I was crazy, with that gigantic smile of his, and said, “No, I’m good.”

And that was that.  An hour and 25 minutes later, we had added 1,500 to our total, he had rebounded every one of them, and he was still smiling.  “I’m good.”

You sure are, buddy.

That’s 185,507 down, 814,493 to go to 1 million made foul shots.
