March 26: 1,500 with Jake Daskoski

27 Mar

Jake is big on the Red Sox. I’m big on the Red Sox.

Jake is an AC/DC fan. I’m an AC/DC fan.

Jake lives in Maine. I flunked out of college in Maine.

We’re kind of like brothers, this Jake Daskoski and me.

Based on our ages, I guess I’m actually more like an uncle, but who’s counting? He’s a great guy, The Beautiful Heth’s Goddaughter Ashleigh’s boyfriend Jake.  Seriously great.  The two of them are down for the weekend, and Jake is back for more rebounding after being here for a two-ball session in late January with his would-be future father-in-law, Ashleigh’s dad, Uncle Ken.  So tonight, with just one ball flying around, it went something like this:

The genius of Jake is that somehow he gets it back quickly but softly.  It reminds me of the time my friend Sheldon Scott bought a pair of Bang & Olufsen speakers, which were so loud you couldn’t hear yourself talk, but so perfectly clear and balanced that you didn’t even realize how loud they were until you tried to hear yourself talk.  With Jake, these passes are coming back like a feather, so it seems slow, but an hour and 38 minutes later, we were counting No. 1,500 … and that’s pretty good’n fast.

We’re now at 192,507 down, 807,493 to go to 1 million made foul shots.  More Bang & Olufsen rebounding today … Jake and Ashleigh are here through Sunday.

Thanks, brother.
