November 18: Sharp-dressed man

19 Nov

The Best Dressed Rebounder award isn’t even close. Peter Warburton wins in a runaway.

Here’s the way this works: Peter, God bless him, is Superintendent of School Administrative Unit 53, which includes — gulp — five school districts, one of which is ours here in Epsom. By virtue of the fact that I am on the Epsom School Board, I am a member of the SAU board. By virtue of the fact that I was the only Epsom representative who attended last year’s Let’s Choose The 2010 Chair meeting, and it was Epsom’s turn … I am the Chairman of this year’s SAU board. Yay me. (Actually, Yay Kevin Barry of Deerfield, who between the two of us is the competent one, and who sits to my left at these meetings and basically spoon-feeds me directions.)

Which brings us to last night’s SAU board meeting at Pembroke Academy. I had called Peter in the middle of the day to ask if he’d be willing to stay after the meeting and rebound down the hallway at Ed Cloe Court. Of course, because he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet (I mean, just look at him for goshsakes), he said yes, despite the fact that he had already left his home and was without any sort of attire that might be appropriate for 90 minutes of shagging basketballs.

Add all that up, and you get 1,500 made foul shots, kind of like this …

You know, it’s funny, just watching that video gives you a pretty decent idea of the kind of administrator Peter is.  Efficient and chill, even-keeled, very little wasted motion. A calm, steady hand, guiding the ship.

And a fine dresser.
